     Costa Blanca Golf Courses

For many years Costa Blanca golf was centred on the few established courses of Villamartin, Las Ramblas and Campoamor BUT with the rapid development on the area surrounding Torrevieja there is now a larger selection of high quality courses all within a short 20-25 minute drive. While the area of Torrevieja is not particularly well served with hotel accommodation there are an abundance of apartment and house rental accommodation with excellent road and motorway links to both Alicante and San Javier (Murcia) airports and with an abundance of bars and restaurants. In addition to the original established courses mentioned opposite the Torrevieja area is now also well served with excellent courses such as La Finca, La Marquesa, Las Colinas, Lo Romero and Vistabella offering different golf experiences with a variety of sea and mountain views. La Finca and Lo Romero are popular with residents and tourists alike and Las Colinas is probably the jewel in the crown and is the current home of European PGA tour stage 2 qualifying. Vistabella is a well presented par 73 courses giving golfers the opportunity to play a unique 22 hole round of golf. Costa Blanca golf in the area of Torrevieja will provide golfers of all standards a wonderful golfing experience that they will wish to repeat on future visits.

Campoamor. This course has stunning views from the club house and superb hotel and is located only 10 minute drive from the local beaches, bars and restaurants and a 40 minute drive from Alicante airport. The course is long even from the yellow tees at 6,198 metres (6,818 yards) with numerous right to left dog-leg holes on sloping and undulating fairways which explains the handicap ‘slope’ rating which is very high and in general provides players with 3-4 additional shots against their normal handicap.

La Finca Golf. Championship golf in mind. The designer has presented the course with the widest variety of different greens to be seen on the Costa Blanca, although some think too varied. The course has good views and a number of lakes with running water ensuring plenty of wild birds and vegetation. A new club house and hotel have recently been constructed and the practise facilities are excellent with two chipping and putting greens, practise bunker and a driving range played off grass.

La Marquesa Golf. The course was designed by Justo Quesada and opened in 1989 as the Club de Golf Quesada with the name being changed in 1994 to La Marquesa Golf and Country Club and in 2010 was the first course in the Valencia region to receive the ISO 9001 award for quality and excellence. The course is a par 72 layout of 6,115 metres (6,726 yards) from the white tees and 5,971 metres (6,568 yards) and 5,098 metres (5,607 yards) from the yellow and red tees respectively.

Las Colinas Golf. Las Colinas Golf and Country Club is an exclusive private community built around a world class championship golf course which was opened to the public in May 2010.This superb golf course measures in excess of 7,000 metres from the competition tees with numerous right to left dog-leg holes to suit the lower handicap golfer and with 6 lakes which come into play over the closing holes. The clubhouse is in a Mediterranean style of 1,500m2 incorporating a restaurant bar and the pro shop and is located close to the 1st and 10th tees and the excellent practise facilities.Playing golf here will be a truly memorable and exclusive experience for all standards of golfer.

Las Ramblas. Las Ramblas is one of the more established courses in the region and is designed to be at ‘one’ with nature taking advantage of the local terrain while being located within a 10 minute drive from the local beaches, bars and restaurants and a 40 minute drive from Alicante airport. The course at Las Ramblas was designed by Jose (Pepe) Gancedo, is a par 72 course measuring 5,824 metres (6,406 yards) from the yellow tees and was first opened to the public in 1991. The designer has used the local terrain and this hilly course wraps itself around the natural ‘rocky’ terrain resulting in a number of dog-leg holes with blind tee shots and drops in elevation from tee to green.

Lo Romero. The course was opened in January 2008 and uses the existing terrain which produces holes with a variety of dog-legs and steady changes in elevation. The signature hole on the course is the 18th hole with the ‘island’ green. This hole is designed along the lines of the 17th at Sawgrass in America which is the home of the TPC which is the unofficial 5th ‘major’ but at 356 metres or 393 yards (yellow tees) the 2nd shot for the average golfer will be played with a long iron or hybrid recovery club.

Villamartin. The Villamartin course is part of the Grupo Quara group which also owns Las Ramblas and La Finca and is situated a short distance from the sea close to Torrevieja on the South Eastern tip of the Costa Blanca. The course is some 6,151 metres in length (white tees) of par 72 and the designer, Paul Putman, produced a course considered good enough to be used for the Mediterranean Open in 1994 which was won by Jose Maria Olazabal in a play off with Paul McGinley.

Vistabella. The construction of this beautiful golf course was one of the best kept secrets on the Costa Blanca until the official opening date on 26th September 2009 which was enjoyed by invited guests and course designer and former Ryder Cup player Manual Pinero. The course has a par 73 measuring 6,193 metres off the competition tees and 5,844 metres off the visitors tees and is set in beautiful and natural surroundings close to the towns of Montesinos and Jacarilla.Currently there are only 11 holes open for play to the public with the remaining holes to be completed in the next 18 months but this course has proved popular with tourists and societies a like with an excellent practise range and a friendly and affordable bar/restaurant.

  • Blue Flag Beaches

Blue Flag Beaches on the Costa Blanca

Sandy beaches, pebbles, dunes and steep cliffs, located on the edge of towns or in hidden heavenly spots. There is so much to choose from.
The Costa Blanca is blue. This is the colour of most of its 60 flags, demonstrating the quality of the waters of its 200 kilometres of coast. This makes Alicante the province with the most awards of this type in the whole of Spain. It has over 170 beaches and coves where the sun shines for over 300 days a year. Sandy, pebbled, hidden behind dunes, next to pine forests, under steep cliffs, urban and remote beaches, with calm and choppy waters.

    Beautiful beaches of Costa Blanca

To the north, in the region of the Marina Alta, the mountain landscape approaches the shore to create unique cliffs and coves looking out onto the long sandy beaches of Denia, Javea and Benissa. Benidorm offers the most well-known and visited beaches. Towards the south, from Alicante to Pilar de la Horadada, there is a change of landscape, with the steep coves turning into dunes, especially in Guardamar del Segura, wetlands and salt marshes, such as the Lagunas de la Mata in Torrevieja and El Hondo in Elche, which are not easy to access in other areas.

    Tranquil beach Costa Blanca

In addition to the crystal clear waters you can enjoy on the coast, we must also highlight the quality of the services offered in this region, including an impressive hotel and catering industry with a wide range of bars and restaurants on the seafront for visitors to enjoy, as well as the endless number of activities for water sport lovers. Restaurants, terraces and bars from which to watch the sunset, accessible beaches, activities for children, windsurfing, sailing and scuba diving. You can also enjoy some time alone by listening to the waves, watching the calm water and going to places in which you can lose yourself.

  • Local Cuisine

    Local Spanish Cuisine

    Cuisine on the Costa Blanca

Costa Blanca has a tasty cuisine based on rice. The staples of the Mediterranean diet form the basic ingredients of Alicante cuisine. Rice is the most popular dish in the Costa Blanca. Dishes with rice, cooked in all manner of ways and styles are all tasty and the favorite cuisine of the region.
Rice and broth in the coastal towns are eaten together with the fish.
The fish stew that the local fishermen used to cook up as a tradition are popular.
Arroz a banda is a popular dish with rice and drier in dried red peppers and served alone.
Flavored with squid (calamari) and tunny fish, chicken and fillet of pork, baby squid (chipirones) and garlic shoots or tunny fish and shrimps (gambas) are the other popular variations of the dishes with rice.
Shellfish and salt-dried fish are the popular menus in every restaurant along the coastal towns. Menu of the day may include gilthead bream (dorada), bass baked in salt (lubina a la sal), seafood with a squeeze of lemon or some delicious sea-fresh red mullet (salmonete) and whiting (pescadilla). Clams (almejas), king prawns (langostinos), pink and brown shrimps (gambas rojas, quisquillas) both steamed or grilled are also remarkable.
Rice forms an integral part of the typical dish olleta in which it is mixed with pork, sausage meats, pumpkin, turnip, chard stalks (pencas), chickpeas and string beans in the mountain areas. Rice is also used as a filling in bajoques farcides, an appetizing dish of stuffed peppers. The inland regions offer excellent meat dishes such as pork cutlets, rabbit cooked in garlic and tomato, leg of lamb, and local sausage meats.
Cocido con pelotas (potage containing balls made of egg and finely diced parsley, crumbed and fried), olla viuda (vegetable stew, with onion, chickpeas, garlic and spinach, eaten during Lent), arroz con costra (rice with sausage meats and chicken or turkey, sometimes coated with a layer of egg and baked in the oven) and the heady pava borracha (roast turkey a la cognac) are the popular dishes in the Vinalopó and Segura river valleys.
The desserts of the Alicante region include the Jijona turrón, ice cream, grapes, raisins, dates, almond pastries, pasteles de gloria (a sugared confectionery made with egg yolk and traditionally eaten on Easter Saturday, sabado de gloria) and almojábenas (sweet, fritter-like pastries, dipped in syrup).
